YOGA FOR A HEALTHY BACK

WORKSHOP SERIES

Due to the rise in technology, we are in front of a computer screen more than we ever have before. We sit in chairs for prolonged periods of time, we drive more and we experience higher levels of stress. All these factors contribute to the health, flexibility and integrity of our backs.

2 Part Series:

PART ONE: LOWER BACK

MAY 13th 2012

Our legs govern the health of the lower back. Tight hamstrings, psoas, and the placement of our femur bones forward create an unstable foundation and the perfect formula for back pain and injury.

Due to these factors, many have lost the natural curve in the lower back. This loss of curve in the lumbar spine is the perfect set up for  injuries commonly found in the lower lumbar L4/L5/S1 area causing bulging or herniated discs, chronic low back pain, chronic tightness and stiffness.

We will apply therapeutic and high integrity alignment to:

  • Open and release the lower back muscles
  • Re-align the femur bones and strengthen the inner legs (adductors) to help bring the curve back
  • Through the integrity of aligning and strengthening the legs, find freedom from pain in the lower back.
  • Target, stretch and clear the psoas muscle
  • Balance and ground the nervous system
  • I will show you how the Psoas muscles, legs and core play a significant role in lower back health issues, tension, injury and pain. 
  • You will learn how to build strength and flexibility in your lower back safely
  • Experience how you can use this specific modality of yoga to heal an existing injury, free yourself from chronic lower back pain and tension.

PART TWO: UPPER BACK

MAY 20th 2012

Hunched shoulders and poor posture are habits are shoulder injuries waiting to happen and a great cause of upper back and shoulder pain.
Simply by learning better posture and alignment techniques, we can not only speed up the healing process in an existing injury, we can also potentially avoid surgery and most importantly prevent injury.

We will apply therapeutic and high integrity alignment to:

  • open the upper back and shoulders
  • learn the proper alignment of the upper back and shoulders
  • strengthen the upper back muscles
  • open the chest
  • learn therapeutic practices for opening the shoulders
  • learn how the opening of the upper back leads to the opening of the heart

This is a workshop series not to miss! You deserve to live with a pain free back!

All levels of yoga experience are welcome.

~TRUST IN YOUR HEART~

HANDSTAND WORKSHOP

As we learn the art of Handstand, in the process, we also learn what it means to Trust the Power and Strength of our Heart. Handstand is one of the most powerful poses in yoga. It not only helps us to open up our upper backs and re-align our shoulders, but it teaches us to connect, move, breath and most importantly LIVE from the strength our hearts.

Handstand gives us the opportunity to learn how to trust ourselves and our bodies. To effectively and safely perform and also HOLD a Handstand requires that we are willing to explore the depths of our hearts, grace and trust.

We learn that true power lies in the heart. That all our unanswered questions wait for us there. That we can truly live a life of more grace and ease when we include our heart in what we do.

Through this workshop, we will explore how the heart and the alignment of the upper back and shoulders play a crucial and beautifully uplifting role in Handstand.

We will learn how the ribcage, pelvis, core strength and legs also pay a part in maintaining balance without external support.

We will learn techniques of alignment, balance, strength, and how to safely “fall” out of a handstand as we eventually move away from the wall.

THE BODY NEVER LIES.

This yoga workshop is designed to help you get more in touch with the subtle and not so subtle ways in which the body gives us feedback and communicates with us. We will explore and cultivate a deeper connection to our body’s innate wisdom and our intuition. Through yoga and various practices, we will learn how the body is our internal compass to guide us in the right direction in any area of our life. We will explore how we can “hear” our body’s communication to tune to our souls calling and live the life we are meant to live.

~Yoga and Freedom of the Heart~

for Women

with Daniella Cotreau

In this personalized workshop for women, we will use meditation, breath awareness practices, the therapeutic aspects of yoga, and TRE Trauma/Tension Release Exercises to prepare the body and nervous system to literally shake out stored emotional blockages from past experiences or old habits that keep us engaged in endless cycles of negative holding patterns.

Through this process you will have the opportunity to release stored tension/trauma from your body/being. You will learn more about yourself, your body and observe the areas of your body that are influenced by old thought patterns or emotional wounds. Through these practices you will release that old energy, free yourself of the past and make space for what you would like to create anew. You will learn how to trust your body’s innate wisdom and allow lightness, freedom and balance into your whole being.

As a result, this work can help chronic back issues/pain, digestive issues, hip tightness, depression, anxiety, and bring balance and lightness to your whole body and nervous system.

The primary focus of this workshop to gain new and easy tools on how to move through challenging experiences in life gracefully, compassionately and with less suffering and to free yourself from it’s manifestation into physical pain or ailments.
